AWARDS 101
We expect our SDA dance family to look and act unified and professional, and to exhibit exceptional sportsmanship, at all times. Awards ceremonies are a continuation of our stage performance and presence, and a chance for us to show our enthusiasm and support for our teammates and others.

What to Wear
To be confirmed by choreographer or Lonnie:
- Costume or black pants
- Black team jacket, zipped up
- Hair in slicked-back ponytail or as applicable
- Dance shoes

Etiquette
- Dancers gather on stage and sit by studio.
- Soloists, duos, and dancers selected to represent a group should memorize the applicable routine numbers and the full name of their choreographer — or write it on the underside of the wrist
- When accepting an award, look the presenter in the eye and say thank you.
- When standing on stage, place feet in parallel or in ballet 5th position.

Award Order

  1. JUDGES AWARDS: Presented to any routine for any reason

  2. ADJUDICATION: The adjudication category (see below) for each routine is announced in rapid-fire, sequential order. A representative from each routine retrieves the pins that correspond to the adjudication.

  3. TOP SCORES: Awards are then presented to the top-scoring routines in each of the different matrix brackets, typically Age+Group Size+Skill Level. For example, “the top 10 Nova Teen Solos,” or “the top 3 Classic Junior Small Groups.” A representative from each of the top-scoring routines comes to the front of the stage and accepts the award.

Levels

  • Nova = Novice/Newer competition experience

  • Classic = Intermediate

  • Select = Advanced

Group Sizes

  • Small Group: 4-9 dancers

  • Large Group: 10-19 dancers

  • Line: 20+ dancers

Adjudication Levels
Based on the total # points received out of 300

  • Platinum Plus: Highest score bracket for Classic and Nova levels

  • Platinum

  • High Gold

  • Gold
