Additional Event Details

DANCE DOWN
Participating dancers will gather on stage to learn a short jazz-style combination for the judges. Dancers are grouped, and winners are selected through process of elimination. Prizes are awarded to the finalists. Registration is $20 at the Spotlight Boutique on the day of the event.

AWARDS 101
Dancers gather on stage and sit together by studio. Dancers should memorize their applicable routine number or write it on their arm.

Awards typically follow this order:

  1. JUDGES AWARDS: Presented to any routine for any reason based on judges choice.

  2. ADJUDICATION: The adjudication category (see below) of each routine is announced in typically sequential order of routine numbers. Numerical scores are not announced.

  3. TOP SCORES: Awards are presented to the top scoring routines in the different matrix brackets, typically Age+Group Size+Skill Level. For example “Junior Small Group, Novice Gems” or “Teen Small Group, Future Gems.” (The bracket for each of our routines is listed in the schedule)

Age Categories
Based on age as of Jan 1

  • PETITE: Up to 8 years old

  • JUNIOR: 9-11 years old

  • TEEN: 12-14 years old

  • SENIOR: 15-19 years old

Group Categories

  • SMALL GROUP: 4-9 dancers

  • LARGE GROUP: 10-19 dancers

  • LINE: 20+ dancers, 4-7 minutes

  • PRODUCTION: 20+ dancers, 8-10 mins

Skill Levels
Based on competition experience, class hours, skill execution, etc.

  • NOVICE GEMS: New to competition

  • FUTURE GEMS: Experienced, Intermediate

  • ELITE GEMS: Advanced, Pre-Professional

Scoring
A panel of three judges will score each routine. Up to 100 points per judge; 300 points total.

  • Technique: 30 points

  • Presentation: 25 points

  • Execution: 25 points

  • Choreography: 10 points

  • Difficulty: 10 points

Adjudication Levels
Based on the total # points received out of 300

  • DIAMOND (highest scores)

  • RUBY

  • EMERALD

  • SAPPHIRE

PHOTO/VIDEO RECORDING
NO photo and video recording is allowed to protect privacy and copyright laws. A professional videographer and photographer will capture media for FREE at each event. Recording devices are also prohibited in dressing rooms.

To Access Professional Recordings

  • Allow 2 weeks for recordings to post

  • Download the “Spotlight Events” app, and log in with your account, or create a new account

  • In your account, select “Add Event” at the bottom of the screen

  • Select “View All Events”, then “Past Events”. From here you can select the event you attended.

  • You will then be taken to a blank screen that says “MY DANCERS.” Select the “+” in the upper right-hand corner and enter your dancer’s name and date of birth, and click “Confirm”

  • From here you can click “Continue”, and create an account to download your full-length videos and high-resolution photos.
